What happens when we apply the principles of history to the future?Which futures currently look most likely, both in the next century and billions of years from now? We cannot know the future, yet we have to prepare for it every day of our lives. When we cross a road and calculate how fast a vehicle is going, when a baby is born or we move to a new country, we employ 'future thinking'. Future Stories is an introduction to the strange world of the future and a guide to what we think we know about the future at all scales, from the individual to the cosmological.

David Christian consults theologians, philosophers, scientists, statisticians and scholars throughout history as explores new ways of thinking about what lies ahead. By linking the study of the past much more closely to the study of the future, we can begin to imagine what the world will look like in a hundred years and consider solutions to the biggest challenges facing us all.
